Adding Images and Assets in CI

Updated over 8 months ago

Adding Images and PDF Files to Your Material Bank Account

There are two main methods for adding images and PDF files to your Material Bank account: Direct Upload and Import. In this article, we will walk you through the steps for both methods.

Adding Assets via Direct Upload

Follow these steps to add assets to your account via Direct Upload:

1. Click on Assets on the left navigation panel.

2. Click on Upload on the upper right.

3. Drag and drop valid file(s) into the window or select Choose a file.

4. The asset will now be available in the Master Asset List.

Note: Keep in mind that assets added to the system via Direct Upload will not be linked to any product or associated with any Attribute. To link the asset to a product, follow the steps outlined in the next section.

When adding images and assets via Direct Upload, it is important to note that there are certain restrictions in place. Assets must be smaller than 600mb in size and must be one of the following file types to be ingested into the Digital Asset Catalog:

Adding Assets via Import

Follow these steps to add assets to your account via Import:

1. Prepare an import Spreadsheet. Your spreadsheet must be an .xlsx or .csv file with columns defining Attributes and rows defining Products.

2. Click on Import on the left navigation panel.

3. Drag and drop your spreadsheet into the import box or select Choose a file.

4. Review and click Save and Import.

Pro-tip: The most effective way to bring assets into the system is via import since it combines multiple steps into one. Asset URLs provided in an import are automatically added to Assets, linked to the corresponding product, and mapped to the specified attribute - three steps in one!

Managing Duplicates

During the Direct Upload process, you may encounter a scenario where one of the assets being loaded already exists in assets. In this case, a Duplicates Found screen will appear during the upload process and provide several options for proceeding with the Direct Upload: Replace, Create New, or Ignore.

Adding Images and Assets

Note: If you replace an existing asset with a new one, the old one will no longer be available to you in Assets. However, any and all associations and mappings of the previous asset will be inherited by the newly uploaded one.

Selecting the Replace option will remove the previous asset and replace it with the newly uploaded one.

Choosing Create As New appends a numeric value to the name of the new asset to distinguish it from the existing asset.

The Ignore option ignores the new asset and does not add it to Assets as part of the Direct Upload.

Linking Assets in Products

To link and unlink assets inside the Master Catalog, follow these steps:

1. Switch the view to MB - Assets in the upper right.

2. Find the product you would like to update, and click on the blank icon where you would like to place the asset. This will open the Edit Asset Gallery modal.

3. Click Add Asset to Gallery.

4. Toggle Only Linked Assets to off and search by asset name to find the correct file.

5. Click on the file, and then click on Add to Gallery at the bottom of the page.

6. Verify the image is now displaying in the correct spot.

Pro-tip: You can export an .xlsx file for all of the images in assets that are not yet linked to products. By modifying the file to contain your Manufacturer SKU and the image url, you can bulk place the images in the correct spots through import.
